MinutemanMinutemen are civilians part of the private organization The Minutemen Project. They go and watch the border for illegal immigrants, they carry cellphones and are sometimes armed. They are from the states that border mexico and have officially been watching the border since 2005. Since their presence U.S. border patrol officials state there has been a sharp decline in immigrants crossing the border.
Warren MagnusonWarren Magnuson from Washington proposed the Magnuson act also known as the Chinese Exclusion Repeal act of 1943. This allowed the Chinese to immigrate to the United States for the first time since 1882. Magnuson was born in 1905 and died in 1989.
George W. BushBush was born in connecticut in 1946. He was the 43rd president of the united states and 46th governor of Texas. He signed the secure Fence act of 2006 which secured the border through barriers, checkpoints, cameras and satelite. He opposed giving illegal immigrants amnesty but supported letting 12 million illegal immigrants in the u.s. work through a temporary worker program.
Albert Johnson/David ReedJohnson and Reed made the foundation for the Johnson/Reed act first proposed by Henry Lodge. The Johnson-Reed act also known as the Immigration act of 1924 limited the number of immigrants from any country entering the United states to 2% that are already there. Albert Johnson was a veteran and congressman from Washington state. He was born in 1869 and died in 1957. David Reed was a senator from Pittsburgh. He was born 1880 and died in 1953.
Jan Brewer
Jan Brewer, born in 1944, became the governor of Arizona in 2009. Brewer served as a state senator and representative from 1983 to 1996. In 2010, Brewer signed an act that made it a requirement for all immigrants to carry their registration documents.
Millard Tydings/John McDuffieTydings and McDuffie created the Tydings-McDuffie Act. This act provided independence for the Philippine government and Filipino independence. Tydings was born in 1890 and died in 1961. He was a soldier, author, and an attorney. McDuffie was born in 1883 and died in 1950. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1918.
INSThe INS, or Immigration and Naturalization Service was the group that lead the Operation Wetback. They were started in 1933, but changed their name to Legacy INS in 2003. This organization dealt with many issues regarding immigration.
Dick Durbin/Orrin HatchDurbin and Orrin first introduced the DREAM Act in 2001. Durbin, born 1944 is the senior United States Senator from Illinois. Orrin was born in 1934 and is the Senior United States Senator from Utah. He served as the chairman of the Health, Education, and Labor and Pensions Committee.
